Residents may bring up to two loads a day and five a week in a passenger car, unmodified van or minivan, or an unmodified pickup no larger than 3/4 ton. Yard waste must be bagged, and branches must be under 3 feet long and 4 inches across. Sisson Street takes household hazardous waste on specific dates and times. No site takes asbestos, lead-based materials, hazardous construction debris or free-flowing liquids such as wet paint.

Commercial vehicles, modified pickups and trailers need a small hauler permit from the Baltimore City Health Department. Small haulers can use Quarantine Road or the Northwest Transfer Station, which charges a $20 flat fee for vehicles up to 7,000 pounds gross weight plus $3.38 per 100 pounds above that (cash or card) and does not take dirt, concrete, brick, stone or gravel. Large haulers must use Quarantine Road.

Dump or dumpster: which is cheaper in Baltimore?

For a pickup load or two, hauling it yourself usually wins. Once a cleanout or remodel runs to several loads, a dumpster can cost less than your time, fuel and repeated gate fees.
