City of Philadelphia sanitation convenience centers

Philadelphia runs six sanitation convenience centers, all open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on City holidays: Port Richmond, 3901 N Delaware Ave ((215) 685-1358); West Philadelphia, 5100 Grays Ave ((215) 685-2600); Strawberry Mansion, 2601 W Glenwood Ave ((215) 685-3981); Southwest Philadelphia, 3033 S 63rd St ((215) 685-4290); Northwest Philadelphia, 300 Domino Ln ((215) 685-2502); and Northeast Philadelphia, State Rd & Ashburner St ((215) 685-8072).

The centers are for Philadelphia residents only, and you need proof that you live in the city. You can bring regular household items once a day and oversized items once a week, in a personal or commercial vehicle under 6,000 pounds total weight. They take up to 12 bags or six receptacles of trash, up to four tires a day, up to two bulk items or appliances a day (including items with refrigerants), mattresses and box springs (unwrapped), electronics, recyclables, yard waste in paper bags, latex paint that has been solidified, fluorescent bulbs, and lithium, rechargeable and lead-acid batteries.

Construction debris is not accepted, and commercial contractors or vehicles carrying commercial loads can't use the centers. For oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides and other household chemicals, the City holds free hazardous waste collection days for residents of Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no registration. The last 2026 event is Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3901 N. Delaware Ave.

Dump or dumpster: which is cheaper in Philadelphia?

For a pickup load or two, hauling it yourself usually wins. Once a cleanout or remodel runs to several loads, a dumpster can cost less than your time, fuel and repeated gate fees.

  • Official local rate: For oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides and other household chemicals, the City holds free hazardous waste collection days for residents of Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no registration.
